What is GoodsCount?
GoodsCount is an inventory system built to answer three questions about a business’s stock: what it has, how much of it there is, and where it is kept. Items live inside storage spaces that nest, so a warehouse can contain rooms and a room can contain shelves, and a breadcrumb trail shows the path back up. Each item carries a quantity in a unit the company chooses, a purchase cost, photos and one or more barcodes, and every change is written to a time-stamped log naming the person who made it.
The product runs in a browser and as apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, sharing one account and one set of data. Changes propagate without a manual refresh, so a scan on a loading dock shows up on an office screen as it happens, and the October 2026 release extended how much of the mobile app keeps working without a connection. Barcodes can be generated as well as read, and the scanner stays open to look up several items in a row.
Around the stock records sit the paperwork and controls a small operation needs: purchase orders raised from low-stock alerts, invoices, vendor records with address lookup, stock valuation based on purchase cost, statistics per space, bulk edits, CSV and Excel import with a preview step, and CSV export that carries links to item photos. Four roles, Owner, Admin, Member and Viewer, set what each person can do, and members can be confined to particular spaces with price fields hidden from them.
Two features are unusual for the category. A company can replace the software’s vocabulary with its own, choosing what places and things are called, and the chosen terms then appear throughout the interface in eight languages. It can also apply its logo, name and colors to the app and to the PDFs the app generates. Both are included on the free plan.
Key features of GoodsCount
- 01
Nested storage spaces
Spaces hold other spaces, so a warehouse can contain rooms and a room can contain shelves. A breadcrumb trail shows where an item sits, and statistics count items for each space, including everything nested inside it.
- 02
Barcode generation and scanning
The app both prints barcodes and reads them, and a single item can carry more than one code. Scanning adds, subtracts or counts stock, and the scanner stays open so several items can be looked up in sequence.
- 03
Live sync across devices
One account covers the web app and the iPhone, iPad and Android apps. Stock counts, item details and lists update themselves as colleagues make changes, so a scan in the warehouse appears in the office without a refresh.
- 04
Roles and space restrictions
Owner, Admin, Member and Viewer roles set what each person can see and do. Members can be confined to chosen spaces, seeing only the items, logs and scan records inside them, and price fields can be hidden from them.
- 05
Purchase orders and invoices
A low-stock alert can raise a purchase order directly, and the app generates purchase orders, invoices and inventory PDFs carrying the company’s own name and colors. Vendor records with address lookup sit behind them.
- 06
Custom terminology
A company picks what the software calls its two central objects, so places can be spaces, locations, folders, collections or groups, and items can be goods, products, assets or artifacts. The chosen words appear on every screen in eight languages.
- 07
Import with a preview step
Existing stock arrives by CSV or Excel. Exports from some other apps are recognized automatically, bringing folder structure, images and barcode data along, while other files need a one-time column match. A preview lists what will change before anything is applied.
- 08
Activity log and alerts
Every edit to an item or a space is recorded with a timestamp and the person responsible. Alerts for conditions such as low stock or an approaching expiry date arrive as push notifications on the mobile apps.
Who uses GoodsCount?
- Retailers with a stockroom track what is on the shelf and what is in the back, and reorder when a low-stock alert fires.
- Warehouses give floor staff scanning access to their own aisles while keeping purchase costs and stock valuations visible only to managers.
- Contractors and equipment managers record tools and parts across vans and job sites, with photos and barcodes on each item.
- Small teams outgrowing a spreadsheet import their existing list by CSV and keep the words they already use for places and things.
- Collectors and event organizers catalog items with photos, custom units and expiry alerts without paying for an enterprise system.
History of GoodsCount
Version 1.0 reached Apple’s App Store on November 7, 2025, as a stock tracker for one person, and version 2.0 followed on December 29 with corrected barcode printouts. Through the first half of 2026 the updates were mostly additive: in-app booking for support calls in March, per-space exports and barcodes for spaces in April, and scanning to add, subtract or count stock in May.
August 2026 brought the two releases that turned the app into team software. Version 5.0.0 added role caps and access rules, a company color scheme, vendor records, purchase orders raised from alerts and stock valuation in exports, and applied the GoodsCount name formally. Version 6.0.0, two weeks later, confined restricted members to chosen spaces, hid sensitive fields such as price from them, and made a repeated import update existing records rather than duplicate them. September releases added finer permissions, status tags, inline editing and sorted exports, and version 7.1.0 in October extended offline use.
- 2025
Version 1.0 appears on Apple’s App Store on November 7, the first public release.
- 2025
Version 2.0 arrives on December 29 with corrected barcode printouts.
- 2026
Scanning to add, subtract or count stock arrives in a May release.
- 2026
Version 5.0.0 in August adds team roles, vendors, purchase orders and company branding.
- 2026
Version 6.0.0 confines members to chosen spaces and makes repeated imports update records.
- 2026
Version 7.1.0 in October extends offline use of the mobile apps.

GoodsCount: frequently asked questions
Who makes GoodsCount?
GoodsCount is made by GoodsCount Technologies Inc., a private company that gives its address as San Francisco, California. Himanshu Goyal founded it in 2020 and is listed on Apple’s App Store as the seller and developer of the apps. The inventory platform is the company’s only product.
What is GoodsCount used for?
GoodsCount is used to track physical stock: what a business holds, how many of each item there are, and which space each one sits in. Retailers, warehouses, contractors and small teams use it for barcode scanning, stock counts, low-stock alerts, purchase orders, invoices and stock valuation.
Is GoodsCount free?
There is a free plan that does not expire, limited to a few hundred items and a single user license. It includes custom terminology, company branding, barcoding, purchase orders, invoices and support calls. Paid monthly or annual tiers raise the item limit and add more seats, each beginning with a two-week trial.
When was GoodsCount released?
Version 1.0 reached Apple’s App Store on November 7, 2025. The app has been updated often since, reaching version 5.0.0 in August 2026, when team roles, vendor records and purchase orders arrived and the GoodsCount name was applied formally, and version 7.1.0 in October 2026.
Does GoodsCount work offline?
Partly. The mobile apps keep some functions available without a connection, and the October 2026 release extended how much works offline. The web app needs a connection. Because the product syncs continuously across devices, edits made on one device appear on the others once a connection returns.
